Il passato recente e il presente, con le loro catastrofi (sanitaria e umanitaria); la crisi climatica, con il suo rimettere radicalmente in discussione il senso stesso dell’idea di civiltà e di razionalità, costringono a ripensare in modo radicale il valore della libertà. Veniamo da una storia, la Modernità, che ha stabilito una solidarietà granitica tra individualità e libertà; una solidarietà reinventata poi in modo antimetafisico dalla cosiddetta Postmodernità, per soggettività – così si immaginava – anarchiche, leggere, decentrate, plurali, flessibili, aperte a un gioco infinito di identificazioni, pronte a reinventarsi quando e dove necessario. Contingenza, decentramento e provvisorietà erano dunque gli emblemi di una ulteriore liberazione, al di là del lavoro compiuto a questo riguardo dalla “rivoluzione moderna”. Tutto questo mostra oggi il suo lato inconsistente. Poiché il tema dei limiti, quello della responsabilità, quello del riconoscimento richiedono di oltrepassare l’individualismo autocentrato con cui troppo spesso organizziamo la nostra azione nel mondo, rivendicando una libertà che, di fatto, non ne è che il riflesso. Questa necessità di superamento lega la questione della libertà a una questione antica, ma sempre attuale: che cosa significa “venire a capo di sé” e in che senso questo incamminamento fa segno su un processo di autocomprensione che trasforma le pretese della libertà?
Presentation
The recent past and the present, with their catastrophes (health and humanitarian); the climate crisis, with its radical questioning of the very meaning of the idea of civilization and rationality, force a radical rethinking of the value of freedom. We come from a history, Modernity, that established a granitic solidarity between individuality and freedom; a solidarity later reinvented in an anti-metaphysical way by the so-called Postmodernity, for subjectivities—so it was imagined—anarchic, light, decentralized, plural, flexible, open to an infinite game of identifications, ready to reinvent itself when and where necessary. Contingency, decentralization, and provisionality were thus the emblems of further liberation, beyond the work done in this regard by the “modern revolution.” All this shows its insubstantial side today. For the theme of limits, that of responsibility, that of recognition demand that we go beyond the self-centered individualism, with which we too often organize our action in the world, claiming a freedom that, in fact, is but a reflection of it. This need to move beyond binds the question of freedom to an ancient, yet ever-present question: what does it mean to “come into one’s own,” and in what sense does this coming into one’s own make a mark on a process of self-understanding that transforms the claims of freedom?

Le passé récent et le présent, avec leurs catastrophes (sanitaires et humanitaires) ; la crise climatique, avec sa remise en cause radicale du sens même de l'idée de civilisation et de rationalité, nous obligent à repenser radicalement la valeur de la liberté. Nous venons d’une histoire, la Modernité, qui a établi une solidarité granitique entre l'individualité et la liberté ; une solidarité ensuite réinventée de manière anti-métaphysique par la soi-disant Postmodernité, pour des subjectivités - ainsi imaginées - anarchiques, légères, décentralisées, plurielles, flexibles, ouvertes à un jeu infini d’identifications, prêtes à se réinventer quand et où est nécessaire. La contingence, la décentralisation et le provisoire ont été ainsi les emblèmes d’une nouvelle libération Tout cela montre aujourd’hui son côté incohérent. Parce que le thème des limites, de la responsabilité, de la reconnaissance nous obligent à dépasser l’individualisme égocentrique avec lequel nous organisons trop souvent notre action dans le monde, en revendiquant une liberté qui, en fait, n'est que son reflet. Cette nécessité de dépassement lie la question de la liberté à une question ancienne, mais toujours d’actualité : que signifie « se connaître soi-même », et en quoi cette mise ce travail sur soi marque-t-il un processus de connaissance de soi qui transforme les revendications de liberté ?

Die jüngste Vergangenheit und die Gegenwart mit ihren (gesundheitlichen und humanitären) Katastrophen, die Klimakrise mit ihrer radikalen Infragestellung des Sinns der Idee von Zivilisation und Rationalität zwingen uns, den Wert der Freiheit radikal zu überdenken. Wir stammen aus einer Geschichte, der Modernität, die eine granitische Solidarität zwischen Individualität und Freiheit etabliert hat. Eine Solidarität, die anschliessend von der so genannten Postmodernität auf anti-metaphysische Weise neu erfunden wurde, indem sie Subjektivitäten förderte, die - so stellte man es sich vor - anarchisch, leicht, dezentralisiert, plural, flexibel, offen für ein unendliches Spiel von Identifikationen und bereit waren, sich neu zu erfinden, wann und wo immer es nötig war. Kontingenz, Dezentralisierung und Vorläufigkeit waren somit die Kennzeichen einer weiteren Befreiung, die über das hinausging, was die "moderne Revolution" in dieser Hinsicht geleistet hatte. All dies zeigt sich heute von seiner wankelmütigen Seite. Denn das Thema der Grenzen, der Verantwortung, oder der Anerkennung verlangen, dass wir unseren selbstzentrierten Individualismus (mit dem wir allzu oft unser Handeln in der Welt organisieren und eine Freiheit beanspruchen, die in Wirklichkeit nur ein Spiegelbild der Freiheit ist) überwinden. Diese Notwendigkeit, über sich selbst hinauszugehen, verbindet die Frage nach der Freiheit mit einer uralten, aber immer noch aktuellen Frage: Was bedeutet es, "mit sich selbst in Einklang zu kommen", und in welchem Sinne geht es bei dieser Auseinandersetzung um einen Prozess der Selbsterkenntnis, der die Ansprüche der Freiheit transformiert?

Nell’ambito della Tagung, l’8 settembre, verrà offerto, per l’occasione, un importante fuoriprogramma: una rappresentazione scenica del monologo “MOI” dedicato alla scultrice Camille Claudel, a cura di Chiara Pasetti. Per i tipi di Nino Aragno Editore, nel 2016, Chiara Pasetti - filosofa, drammaturga e saggista - ha pubblicato Mademoiselle Camille Claudel e Moi, un lavoro dedicato alla scultrice Camille Claudel: una preziosissima lezione sulla libertà e il suo prezzo. Attraverso il profilo di Camille Claudel, musa e amante di Rodin, internata a trent’anni nell’ospedale psichiatrico di Montfavet, Chiara Pasetti ci offre uno spettacolo per emozionarci e pensare, attraverso la voce dell'attrice Lisa Galantini. Nel gennaio 2023 lo spettacolo “MOI” ha ricevuto il premio “Patrizia Romei 2022”, dedicato ad artisti che si occupano della rappresentazione scenica di tematiche legate al disagio psichico.
Off-Program
As part of the Tagung, an important off-program will be offered on September 8: a stage performance of the monologue "MOI" dedicated to sculptor Camille Claudel, curated by Chiara Pasetti. For Nino Aragno Publishers, in 2016, Chiara Pasetti - philosopher, playwright, and essayist - published Mademoiselle Camille Claudel e Moi, a work dedicated to the sculptor Camille Claudel: a very valuable lesson on freedom and its price. Through the profile of Camille Claudel, Rodin's muse and lover, who was interned at the age of 30 in the Montfavet psychiatric hospital, Chiara Pasetti offers us a show to move and think, through the voice of actress Lisa Galantini. In January 2023, the show "MOI" was awarded the "Patrizia Romei 2022" prize, dedicated to artists who deal with the stage representation of issues related to mental distress.

Dal 2021, la Fondazione Eranos dedica i suoi Convegni annuali (Eranos Tagungen) a una figura straordinaria della storia della medicina contemporanea, il luminare Peter Anton Miescher (1923-2020), e a sua moglie Annatina (1924-2016), compagna di vita, interlocutrice privilegiata, pittrice sensibile. Desidera così esprimere la sua gratidune a due persone che in tempi e modalità diverse hanno mostrato un grande affetto nei confornti della dalla nostra istituzione. Pioniere nello studio delle malattie autoimmuni, Peter Anton Miescher è stato Professore di Medicina al Bellevue Medical Center dell'Università di New York; Professore e Direttore del Centro Trasfusionale e della Divisione di Ematologia clinica e sperimentale all’Università di Ginevra; Consulente di Immunoematologia clinica per l’Organizzazione Mondiale della Sanità; e Consulente per il Ministero della Sanità cinese. I suoi studi teorici e sperimentali, così come la sua pratica clinica, unite a uno spirito innovativo e intrepido, gli hanno consentito di fare importanti scoperte, il cui esito, in ultima analisi, è stato quello di rivoluzionare la cura delle malattie autoimmuni. Uomo di immensa cultura, collezionista e musicista, umanista curioso, negli ultimi anni della sua vita ha voluto condividere con la Fondazione Eranos l’organizzazione di due simposi extra-muros, svoltisi presso il museo del Castello di Tarasp (2018 e 2019), sulle grandi questioni esistenziali che interessano oggi le nostre società. L’amicizia di cui la Fondazione ha potuto beneficiare si è anche tradotta in una importante donazione, grazie alla quale sarà possibile offrire al nostro pubblico un incontro annuale di studio sui temi universali (l’arte, la spiritualità, il senso della vita) che più gli stavano a cuore. Una occasione per conservarne e condividerne la memoria e dimostrare la nostra gratitudine.
Since 2021, the Eranos Foundation has dedicated their annual Conferences (Eranos Tagungen) to an extraordinary figure in the history of contemporary medicine, the luminary Peter Anton Miescher (1923-2020), and to his wife Annatina (1924-2016), a life companion, privileged interlocutor, and sensitive painter. It thus wishes to express its gratidune to two people who at different times and in different ways showed great affection in confornti of our institution. A pioneer in the study of autoimmune diseases, Peter Anton Miescher was Professor of Medicine at Bellevue Medical Center of New York University; Professor and Director of the Transfusion Center and Division of Clinical and Experimental Hematology at the University of Geneva; Consultant of Clinical Immunohematology to the World Health Organization; and Consultant for the Chinese Ministry of Health. His theoretical and experimental studies, as well as his clinical practice, combined with an innovative and intrepid spirit, allowed him to make important discoveries whose outcome, ultimately, was to revolutionize the treatment of autoimmune diseases. A man of immense culture, collector and musician, curious humanist, in the last years of his life he wanted to share with the Eranos Foundation the organization of two extra-muros symposia, held at the museum of Tarasp Castle (2018 and 2019), on the great existential questions that affect our societies today. The friendship from which the Foundation was able to benefit also took the form of an important donation, thanks to which it will be possible to offer our audience an annual study meeting on the universal themes (art, spirituality, the meaning of life) that were most dear to him. An occasion to preserve and share his memory and to show our gratitude.
